• Though Pathfinder's fuel capacity is comparable to Honda Pilot, Honda beats the other three, 19.5 gallons to a respective 19.2, 19.0, and 18.6. That's fewer stops for refueling up through Fairfield, CT to Bridgeport.
• Pilot offers better highway fuel economy* than Highlander or Atlas, too -- an extra mile you can count on heading across the harbor through busy Norwalk and down the Connecticut coast to Stamford.

Safety

• All five mid-size sport-utilities ger five stars from the NHTSA** for their overall abilities to withstand a crash.
• The latest Pilot receives from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) a 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK*** designation, with Good ratings for its crash tests as well as a superior rating for front crash prevention and acceptable headlight and child seat anchor ratings. The same goes for Toyota Highlander and Mazda CX-9. However, Nissan Pathfinder falls short with Marginal headlights, and Volkswagen Atlas lags behind with Marginal headlights and seat anchors.

Interior and Technology

• Pilot offers ample head, leg, and shoulder room thanks to a 152.9-cubic-foot cabin for passengers that dwarfs that of both Highlander and CX-9 and squares it up similarly in size to Pathfinder and Atlas.
• It's well ahead of Highlander, CX-9, and Pathfinder in max cargo space, too, at a sprawling 83.9 cubic feet.
• If you're looking to take a trailerful in tow, ours offers a better max towing capacity as well -- up to 3,500 pounds, on par with CX-9 and ahead of Highlander and Atlas.
• It's well-appointed to keep control of your entertainment and connectivity within reach also, with a 5-inch color LCD that graduates to 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen infotainment in higher trims. 2018 Highlander offers 6.1- and 8-inch Entune systems, 2018 CX-9 provides 7- and 8-inch MAZDA CONNECT variants, there's an 8-inch iteration in 2018 Pathfinder, and 6.5- and 8-inch models show up in 2018 Atlas.
